Who Are We
Who Are We
Who Are We, The Courtauld Institute, London, England, November 2015
Printed on 5 x7 matte fine art paper.
We were walking through the galleries of the Courtauld Institute in London. The place where my father had studied art history as a graduate student. There, beneath this painting of girls by Paul Gauguin, was a group of London school girls sketching. It all came full circle. My father's love of art. The way he had passed it on to me. My own studies as an art historian. The Gauguin my dad gave to the St Louis Art Museum in memory of his parents. The circle that is the love and connection with art.
In one of his most famous Tahitian painting, Gauguin asks: Where Do We Come From? What Are We? Where Are We Going? To that I add, Who Are We? In this circle of life, we spend a lifetime finding out what we already know. We are Love. However and wherever and with whomever it manifests. We are Love.
